Tim Ho Wan, Michelin Starred Dim Sum

My wife and I travel to South East Asia at least once a year, we just love it so much. Hong Kong is our usual hub that we fly in and out of. Most flights from here are reasonably cheap and frequent. It’s only an hour and a half to Hanoi and two or three hours to Phnom Penh or Saigon. We always make an effort to stop off at Tim Ho Wan for amazing dim sum – especially the pork buns.
On our travels, after a bit of research and cross referencing from really helpful SE Asian travel sites such as Travelfish, we discovered a dim sum restaurant named Tim Ho Wan.
This amazing Michelin starred dim sum/yum cha/dumpling house has to be one of the best in the world, it’s popular though. As you can see from the photograph above, the lines are pretty constant from when they open at 09:00 until they close at 21:00.
The baked buns with BBQ pork are the best I have ever eaten anywhere, and I have consumed a lot of pork buns over the years at Yum Cha from Wellington NZ, Melbourne Australia, to London, New York, Paris and Lyon.
This year we were fortunate to go twice, once upon arrival from Auckland to Hong Kong and then again on our return to Hong Kong from Saigon. Each time ordering the BBQ pork buns but alternative dishes to accompany them.
Tim Ho Wan’s motto is “Make it ourselves, Do it Once”. The cost of a meal for two is usually around $20-30 USD and includes bottomless freshly brewed tea.
This is definitely food that will keep you coming back for more, they are world wide now as you will see from the weblink above. Give it a try, it really is worth the wait and the food is to die for.
